Já se sabia que este ano a 75ª cerimónia dos Globos de Ouro iria ser dominada pelo tema «assédio sexual» e que o dress code usado pelas nomeadas e convidadas seria o preto, em sinal de protesto contra as vítimas de discriminação sexual.
Mas a cerimónia ficou marcada pelo discurso forte e emotivo de Oprah Winfrey ao receber o prémio honorário Cecil B. DeMille.
Oprah levantou o auditório do hotel Beverly Hilton com um discurso contra «os homens poderosos e brutais» que dominaram o mundo, afirmando que «o seu tempo chegou ao fim».
